General information
Programme of the Internship:
The intern will get involved in handling client bookings for interpreters, translators and foreign-language tour guides. This involves receiving bookings, logging them electronically, identifying suitably qualified and competent freelance personnel, booking them by phone and subsequently by formal written notification, providing them with the necessary information in writing to carry out their duties, monitoring their attendance and their record sheets and handling preparation for their billing, despatching of invoices and subsequent follow up of collections (actual invoicing is carried out by a separate department).
The intern may also assist in data entry and updating for a recently introduced new database of Clients, Translators, Interpreters and Tour Guides.
Another are of involvement may be the updating of documentation for the annual in-house training course for foreign language tour guides, which may include some logistics, such as arranging competitive quotations and hotel reservations.
Where opportunities for translation work arise that are within the competence of the intern, he/she will be encouraged to undertake such assignments. In any such cases, he/she will be supervised and mentored by an experienced translator who will proofread all work produced before releasing it. Such work, if it arises and is undertaken outside office hours, will be remunerated. However, given the nature of the business, we are unable to guarantee that any such work within his/her competence will definitely arise.
This internship will particularly appeal to students of translation and/or interpreting and related areas, who realise the importance of understanding how a translation agency operates and interacts with professional translators and interpreters.
