General information

Duration:

Description:

We are looking for a new teaching assistant for our two schools. An energetic, resourceful person who is interested in working in a bilingual (Finnish/Swedish) surrounding and wants to learn about the Finnish educational system. We are quite experienced in dealing with assistants as we have had 5 assistants already. The two schools work under the same roof, thus facilitating the work of the assistant. It is important that you are very autonomous, goal-oriented and independent, as school life can be pretty hectic here.

Knowledge in English will be essential as the teaching assistant will work in the English classes, and it's also important for the communication with the other teachers. It will also be possible for the assistant to work in other language classes (Finnish, Swedish, German, French) and attend classes in other subjects like art and crafts, biology, geography, music, PE, Home Economics, history and so on depending on the interest of the applicant.  There will also be the opportunity to start an international club for our pupils.

We are very flexible with the exact dates of the assistantship. The school year starts 15 August, 2017, and ends 2 June, 2018. We would be happy with one assistant staying most of the year, but another alternative is to stay a shorter period, or even dividing the school year between two assistants, autumn/spring. Please tell us your preference!

NB. As our two previous Erasmus teacher assistants came from Turkey, we are now looking for someone from another country to broaden our knowledge of different cultures.

About us:

Nikkilän Sydän / Nickby Hjärta is a brand-new bilingual (Finnish/Swedish) school building that will host two schools for pupils between 13 and 16 years, one Finnish speaking, one Swedish speaking. The name of the building means Nikkilä/Nickby Heart, thus referring to the importance of  the schools for the rural community which is only 30 km from Helsinki, the capital city. There are 650 pupils in the new school building and our school days is from 8 am until 2 pm.
