3-4 days per week

Gallery assistant

Kling & Bang is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic person to join us in 2024. Kling & Bang (Reykjavík, Iceland) is situated in a newly renovated building, The Marshall house, which we share with The Living Art Museum, I8 Gallery, and restaurant La Primavera. The Marshallhouse is situated in the up and coming Reykjavík Harbour referred to as Grandi.

Kling & Bang is a non-profit artist-run space established by ten artists in the beginning of 2003, a noticeably long life span for an artist-run space in Iceland. The aim of Kling & Bang is to introduce emerging and established, national and international artists and their works, that challenge the context and content of creative thinking. Kling & Bang often collaborates with outside curators and galleries on various projects. Kling & Bang also often participates directly in the process of creating the artworks e.g. producing the works and collaborating with the exhibitors. All board-members of Kling & Bang work as volunteers.

In March 2017, Kling & Bang opened a new exhibition- and project space in The Marshall House in Grandi Harbour Area in Reykjavík. In our new housing Kling & Bang continues its vision of hosting ambitious exhibitions and programs. On the horizon there are exhibitions of artists having their first public shows as well as exhibitions of acclaimed local and international artists.

We are looking for a committed and proactive person to join us. An enthusiastic and motivated front of house staff to join our team. During installation your major role will be to take part in the installing and taking down of exhibitions, most of which run for six weeks at a time followed by a two week take-down and installation period. As the exhibitions run your main role will be to welcome our visitors to Kling & Bang as well as to support activities or events. You will oversee the artwork on display, take part in the organisation and day to day activities of the gallery as well as participating in light general housekeeping. These are all tasks that current members of Kling & Bang take on as well (all as volunteers). The duration is preferably 2 - 4 months (ca 18 hours a week) which should give you a detailed insight into the making and take-down of an exhibition, as well as the complex operations of an artist-run space. Speaking english is required.

Kling & Bang is looking for interns throughout the year. All intern positions are unpaid. We specifically encourage those curious about starting and running an artist-run space to apply!

Remote Internship at Bridging Gaps

About

Our story starts with Malish James, a South Sudanese refugee in Uganda's Bidibidi Refugee Settlement. His community faced a critical issue: international organizations are cutting food rations, and refugees struggle to afford food and other essential items like clothes for their children. To address this, we introduced a groundbreaking new business model: the first-ever pay-it-forward community microloan, merging charity and microfinance. With Malish as our co-founder, we identified potential entrepreneurs, conducted a co-created pilot workshop, and established community loan groups. A digital platform was developed to secure donations from Germany and Europe, which were then transformed into microloans. Unlike traditional repayable microloans, our model is based on a pay-it-forward approach. As businesses thrive, loans are passed on to new entrepreneurs in the same community, creating a sustainable ripple effect of new initiatives and, long-term, new independent financial structures. Donors receive continuous updates on the impactful stories of the entrepreneurs they support through our digital platform, fostering a sense of connection and engagement with the community. This innovative approach not only addresses immediate needs but also promotes lasting, self-sustaining initiatives. Bridging Gaps is looking for several interns to support its mission.

How to apply

Send an email with your CV and a personalized cover letter to [email protected].

Application deadline is the 15th March 2024.

Tasks

Strategic Development & Partnership Management

  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging with the private sector, fostering partnerships, and executing collaborative initiatives.
  • Support our partnership with UNHCR, including creating joint communications campaigns and local establishment of entrepreneurship trainings, incubation programs, community loan groups and strategic new businesses (e.g. innovative agricultural projects such as mushroom and spirulina cultivation, to attract additional UN partners).

Marketing, Outreach & Fundraising

  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through open calls, including awards, grants, and other relevant avenues.
  • Implement the outreach strategy for the fundraising fellowship to ensure a high number of applications together with strategic partners, such as the Global Good Fund, UPEACE, UN Global Pulse, UNHCR and Harvard University (TBC).
  • Support the organization and evaluation of fundraising fellowship applications.
  • Assist in crafting and executing influencer and paid social media strategies to broaden our reach and impact.
  • Assist in executing marketing, outreach, and fundraising campaigns to enhance visibility and support for our initiatives.

Impact Measurement & Operations

  • Streamline administrative processes by developing a Notion wiki supported by our partner Skillando, organizing and enhancing systems such as filing structures in our Google Drive, automation of donation receipts, Excel sheets for partner management and impact measurement, and updating OKR trackers for effective project monitoring.

  • Attend bi-weekly team meetings to contribute insights and updates on ongoing projects.
