Context
Created in 1964 in Belgium, present in more than 10 european countries, with 120 collaborators, EUROSENSE is on of the pioneering companies in the domain of geo-data services with an active role in the development of new technical solutions for the empowerment of geo-spatial data in multiple domains.
EUROSENSE offers very precise technical solutions for the acquisition and the processing of aerial photography, airborne LiDAR, airborne thermography and satellite imagery.

Goals
The objective of the internship is to develop a tool to (1) automatically extract individual trees, out of geospatial data, to (2) automatically give a health score to individual trees.
For (1), entry geospatial data will be RGBI imagery (of various resolutions) and LiDAR point clouds (of various densities). Expected output is a tree register with attributes such as location, height, crown area, crown mean radius, etc.
For (2), annotated RGBI datasets are available, to train and validate AI algorithms. Expected output is a Boolean answer: healthy – unhealthy.

Deep Learning Engineer

Context
EUROSENSE is a producer of massive amounts of geo-data, among which LiDAR data. The increasingly demanding requirements for point density from european national cartographic agencies in their offers to tender lead EUROSENSE to challenge its LiDAR point cloud processing pipeline. The company has started to progressively introduce the use of deep learning in production and is seeking to perform more R&D in that matter. That's where you come in!

Goals

  1. Researching current state of the art in deep learning for the semantic segmentation of LiDAR point cloud
  2. Performing a technical analysis of available frameworks (PyTorch Lightning, Torch Points 3D, PyTorch3D, ...) to assess the most suited one
  3. Implementing the RandLA-Net architecture based on the technical analysis' choice in a test-driven fashion
  4. Experimenting the RandLA-Net architecture on EUROSENSE's data from different landscapes throughout Europe

 

Your profile

  • In the last year of a MSc. in Geomatics Engineering or related field such as Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics
  • Solid Python development skills and general software engineering skills (knowledge of design patterns, willingness for test-driven development)
  • Experience in performing machine learning and/or deep learning projects
  • Ready to work in a team using AGILE methods and familiar with Git
  • Familiarity with PyTorch, Docker, C++ and/or CUDA programming appreciated
  • Genuine eagerness to learn and achieve something great
