General information
We are looking for two animal carers for a period of 6 months. You need to enjoy being surrounded by animals and nature.
Overall Purpose
To provide care and rehabilitation for donkeys, mules, ponies and hinnies; maintain the buildings and surrounding areas and farm the land (where applicable), in accordance with the Farms Code of Practice.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provide care by routine checking, feeding, mucking out, grooming, weighing.

Provide care by mucking out, feeding and bedding up of barns and stables and distributing hay, haylage and bagged feedstuffs

Maintain the farm by sweeping, cleaning, field sweeping, haymaking, compost management and dirty water control (where applicable)

Support the Farm Manager in maintaining a safe working environment by using risk assessments, following health and safety regulations and maintaining farm security

Maintain up to date manual records for the donkeys, farming practices, holidays and overtime including the Self Serve System (where available)

Carry out any other reasonable duty as required
Additional Duties

Help on mule/donkey behaviour training and handling

Ensure donkey information signs and pictures around the farm are up to date (this is made in the office now, by the PR officer and the office assistants).

Communicate with the public, providing advice and attending promotional events (applicable to all farms)

Help on the Preparation donkeys for the foster scheme, fundraising activities and training of new foster owners

Hours
25 – 35 hours per week basic plus additional hours as required when donkeys are sick, for haymaking and for open days and fundraising. .

Knowledge and Skills
Essential:

Experience of animal husbandry

Physical fitness (the ability to lift, for example, a bag of feed approx. 20 kg)

Willing to work outside in adverse weather conditions

Ability to work as part of a team

Full current valid driving licence
Desirable:

Communication skills

Second Language preferably local and English
