Over the past years, we wish to grow University Housing to become one of the Netherlands’ leading players in this field. 

The University Housing team consists of enthusiastic and hardworking people, who are eager to push themselves to make the company successful and are open to supporting others in their learning process. During your internship, you will gather data, optimize data pipelines and productionize our machine learning models for the University Housing data team so the company can reach new heights. 

The goal of the position:

The Mission of the Data Engineer Internship is to gather as much usable data as possible and work in tandem with our Data Scientist to make a seamless integration between raw data and usable results. Data is the starting point that will allow optimization of many processes and University Housing to take advantage of new opportunities.

You will gather and organize data for different departments within the company by using all University Housing resources as required. You are analytical and enjoy optimizing complex procedures. You can translate said data into structured data that will greatly benefit the company. You are self-motivated and capable of working independently on different projects. During the internship, you will work on your own learning plan and are given the opportunity to work on a personal project within the company.
 

What do we expect from you?

• Data-driven – You can organize, explore, and synthesize unstructured data into actionable insights to better inform operational decision-making.

• You are able to gather raw data, assess quality, clean, and structure for downstream processing.

• You are able to build the infrastructure needed to push machine learning models into production.

• You are able to maintain the existing server infrastructure.

• You are able to build internal APIs and toy websites for reports.

• You are proactive and a team player.

• You have a bold attitude and are not afraid of taking responsibility.

Minimum experience, education & skill requirements:

• Currently studying Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or any related field at the Bachelor or Master level.

• Full-time Internship for 40 hours a week, preferably for a minimum of 5 months and a maximum of 12 months.

• English proficiency in a professional environment.

• Fluency in Python, SQL, bash scripting, JavaScript, and optionally a general-purpose backend language of your preference(Go, Rust, C++, etc).

• Knowledge of scraping and related frameworks (scrapy, beautifulsoup).

• Adequate knowledge of DevOps, basic system administration.

• You have a basic knowledge of Git.

• Experience with a Web Stack and Linux is a plus.

These are not absolute must-haves, willingness to learn them is the only true requirement.
