Background:

Are you highly creative, passionate about design, sustainability and food? 

Department 22 is a forecasting and innovation agency, designing future food systems and transforming global challenges into circular business opportunities that appeal to customers. Established in 2016, Department 22 has worked with a variety of businesses operating in the food sector and beyond, including some of the UK's leading retailers, restaurants and manufacturers. 

 

Purpose of the post:

We are looking for a multi-talented person who shares our values. You will be able to work independently on structured tasks, reporting to the design directors of Department 22. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using your creative skills to build visual material for client presentations 

  • Support everyday activities in the studio with a variety of creative tasks to respond to client briefs, including ideas generation, sketching, drawing and model-making.

  • Closely follow both existing and forthcoming Department 22 projects and events, in order to generate exposure to our work

  • Have a keen awareness of forthcoming events, particularly relating to design, circular economy or food, supporting presence of the company either as participants or speakers.

  • In addition, you will help create and organise possible events that help connect Department 22 with current and future clients and suppliers.

 

Person Specification

 

Essential

  • An Undergraduate or Masters degree, or equivalent, in product, service, visual design or a related discipline.

  • Exemplary portfolio of previous project experience that demonstrates an ability to produce high-quality 2D and 3D visual material

  • Evidence of good research, sketching and exploration skills

  • Experience in developing projects from concept to realisation

  • Good communication and organisation skills

  • The ability to work effectively and creatively within a lively and friendly team

  • Good independent time management 

  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

Desirable

  • Strong sense of creativity 

  • 3D Modelling skills (eg. Rhino, Fusion 360 or Solidworks)

  • Digital animation skills

  • Experience of working in an established design environment

  • Keen interest in design, sustainability, circular economy and food

  • Ability to work independently and within the team

  • Good sense of humour

  • Flexible approach to projects and working environment

  • Excellent written and spoken English

 

Additional Information:

Working Hours: Normal hours will total 24h/week (3 days per week), 9.00am to 5.30pm.

Place of work:  Either at one of Department 22’s offices or off-site

 

Salary: Funded through Erasmus + with the possibility of occasional extra income for specific jobs
