Blueprints for building the next generation 3D printer for pharmaceutical products

Description: In the last few years, there has been an increasing interest for applying additive manufacturing technology for production of patient-specific dosage. However, commercially available technologies were designed in general for prototyping of large objects and not particularly suitable for small structure like capsules, tablets, implants and stents. These dosage forms suffer several drawbacks such, use of heat input, drying condition, free-radical initiators, high energy input as well as the need for finishing steps. The overall aim of the project is to design and built a purpose-built 3D printing technology that allows high level of input optimization of different ingredients and obviate the need for further finishing steps.

A non-invasive robotic capsule for oral delivery of peptides and proteins

Description: Oral delivery of protein remains an elusive task for many large molecules, current technologies for delivery of proteins focused on peptides and small size proteins. More recently, there has been an evolution of employing robotic capsule to extend transit time in the stomach or provide an injection mechanism of microneedles for the delivery of these molecules in human. However, the system often used metal or hard-material needles and the long-term safety of frequent ingestion and injection of these systems on the integrity of gut wall is yet to be established. The aim of this work is design, develop and investigate the in vitro and in vivo performance of robotic capsules equipped with non-invasive device for the delivery of oral peptides.

If you are interested in doing one of these research projects in England within ERASMUS program.
