Intern position(s) in Biomedical Research (Cancer & Stem Cell Biology) in central Vienna, Austria

Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences

Period:
1 Jul, 2022 to 30 Jun, 2023
Deadline:
28 Oct, 2022

General information

Duration:
12 months
Commitment:
Full-time
Description:

Dear ERASMUS students, we always look for motivated biomedical interns with good practical skills in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular cell biology to join our team at the Center for Pathobiochemistry & Genetics: https://pbg.meduniwien.ac.at/forschung/forschung-medizinische-genetik/forschungsgruppen/lomakin-lab/

By joining us, you will be exposed to an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment in which you can learn approaches based on fluorescent biosensors, single-cell resolved quantitative microscopy, molecular cell biology, and cell & tissue bioengineering to identify the signals that tumor cells sense, produce, and integrate in order to generate phenotypic diversity within their communities. Defining this “cellular language” at the molecular level is crucial for the development of novel and more specific therapeutic approaches to target distinct subpopulations of cancer cells and curb their drug resistance. Indeed, our long-term goal is to develop the OncoCellScopy approach – Watching under the microscope and quantifying with a single-cell resolution how oncology drugs perturb fitness traits of distinct subsets of tumor cells within heterogeneous populations.

IMPORTANT: Due to Austrian labor regulations, our university, unfortunately, cannot host students who already graduated from their home (outside of Austria) institutions. A student eligible for the internship in Austria must be officially enrolled in studies or be employed at their respective home (outside of Austria) institutions for the entire duration of the intended internship in Austria. It is regrettably not possible to establish freelancer contracts in Austria for students who already graduated from their home (outside of Austria) institutions. We are sorry to presently limit our choices to students from EU and 4 EFTA countries.

The duration of the internship is negotiable and starts from 3 to 12 months.

We accept applications on a rolling basis (no deadline).
