SAPHIRE “Self-Assembling Plant-based Hydrogels Induced by Redox Enzymes” is a research project led by Celignis and funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme. It involves the development of a novel conceptual process to produce environmentally-friendly, 100% plant-based, superior-quality hydrogels for food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
We are looking for an intern to assist in the laboratory work required. This will involve the screening of a wide variety of enzymes and the development and optimisation of protocols for the extraction and modification of xylans from plant biomass.
The intern will be part of the dynamic Celignis team and will be trained in a variety of different methods of analysis and processing. Our labs are equipped with state of the art equipment, listed below, many of which the intern will make use of.
- Automated solvent extractors.
- Hydrolysis equipment.
- Ion chromatography.
- Shaking incubators
- UV spectroscopy.
- Near infrared spectroscopy.
- Ashing furnaces.
