Description: 

Use of a wide variety of analytical techniques and equipment to characterize properties of biomass samples relevant to bioenergy, biochemical, and biofuel production.

Items of equipment that may be used include:

  • Automated solvent extractors.
  • Hydrolysis equipment.
  • Ion chromatography.
  • ICP-OES
  • GC/MS.
  • UV spectroscopy.
  • Near-infrared spectroscopy.
  • Ashing furnaces.
  • Volatile matter furnace.
  • Bomb calorimeter.
  • Elemental analyzer.

 

The intern will also get experience in adhering to SOPs and quality control methods as well as evaluating the quality of data produced.
