Language assistants wanted at Tornbjerg Gymnasium, Denmark!
Are you our new language assistant in the framework of the Erasmus work placement program?
At Tornbjerg Gymnasium we are looking for language assistants who are native speakers of either English, German, French or Spanish to assist our students in improving their foreign language learning. All our students learn either German, French or Spanish in addition to English as part of their Danish high school degree.
Tornbjerg Gymnasium is an upper secondary school with about 575 students, aged 15-20 years, and about 50 full time teachers. We teach 10th through 12th grade equipping students to further their education at university level. Our goal is to create a motivating learning environment in which our students prosper. Our academic year runs from the middle of August until the end of May. We are looking for a language assistant who could come for three to four months in the period September 15th-April 1st.

Note that this is an unpaid work placement.
What will you do as a language assistant?
As a language assistant you actively support the teaching of your native language at Tornbjerg Gymnasium to strengthen especially the oral communication skills of the students. You will assist with exercises for the students that the teacher has prepared and you will also help plan activities and lessons and produce resources to enable students to improve their language skills. In addition we expect you to share your culture with the students by for instance discussing topics such as current affairs, films, sport, history etc.
As a language assistant you must be a native speaker of the language being taught, that is English, German, French or Spanish. You must be outgoing and like working with young people, have good communication skills and work well in teams. We expect you to be interested in teaching and, ideally, you are planning a career within teaching
Workload and working hours
We expect you to participate in the teaching of 7-10 lessons of 95 minutes on a weekly basis. Lessons are usually scheduled between 8:15-15:25 Monday through Friday.
Tornbjerg Gymnasium and Danish
Everybody from the bus driver to the sales clerk in Denmark speaks English. You therefore do not need to know Danish to live in Denmark. Tornbjerg Gymnasium is located in Odense in the proximity of the University of Southern Denmark with about 18,000 students of which 2300 are international students. Through Erasmus Student Network, you will have ample possibilities of socializing with international students. Odense is the city of Hans Christian Andersen and situated on the island of Funen.

If you are a good match, we draw up a training agreement between you, your institution and Tornbjerg Gymnasium. You apply for an Erasmus grant through your home institution.
