Full-time
Description:

We are seeking a talented and motivated candidate with a Bachelor in Chemistry, Pharmacy or a related subject, to be integrated in the Medicinal Chemistry & Synthesis (MCS) group at the Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC).
The intern will work on an interdisciplinary project aimed at developing new drugs against cancer which can be activated with light. The project will involve the following tasks:
1) Design and synthesis of anticancer molecules with a light-controllable functional group
2) Photochemical characterisation of the synthesised compounds
3) Biological evaluation of the synthesised compounds

To develop these tasks, the intern will learn skills related to organic chemistry (standard synthesis, purification and characterisation techniques), photopharmacology, enzymatic assays and cell culture. The intern will also participate in the daily tasks of the laboratory.

In summary, the candidate will have the chance to work in a highly innovative project and will develop research skills both in chemistry and biology that will be invaluable for future medicinal chemistry projects in both academia and industry.
