Description: 

We will use non-target and target metabolic approaches in a set of RIL with contrasting levels of resistance to Fusarium ear rot and fumonisin contamination in order to gather information about pathways and/or particular metabolites involved in resistance to kernel infection by Fusarium verticillioides and/or fumonisin contamination. The candidate will participate in kernel sample processing and quantification of target metabolomites in the kernel: in the pericarp, free and cell-wall-bound hydroxycinnamic acids (hydroxycinnamates), flavonoids and waxes will be quantified; meanwhile, in the whole kernel, concentrations of lipids (including carotenoids and tocopherol) will be measured. Non-target metabolites will be extracted from the samples following standard procedures and analyzed using a UPLC-QTOF.
