Description: 

Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education (SMI) is an academic institution providing a diverse range of courses and programmes in computing and business at EQF Level 5, 6 and 7. The Institute strives to continuously improve on its existing technological infrastructure and information systems to run its processes as efficiently as possible, with data integrity and security in mind. This post is for an individual to help in the design and development of software applications and/or web applications.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Understand the requirements of the system/s to be able to contribute to their design and development aspects;
  • Be part of a team and work directly with members of the team as required, but can also work independently;
  • Be willing to learn technologies and/or languages if the design so necessitates, such as to design mobile apps;
  • Carry out the development tasks needed, keeping in mind principles for good design and user experience;
  • Be a creative problem solver, a collaborator, team player and an individual that is passionate about cutting edge technologies and content.
  • Document application and development carried out for future reference and to promote reusable code;
  • Provide the team with regular updates about the works being carried out;

 

Qualifications

To qualify for this post, the candidate should be at an advanced stage of reading for a Degree in Computing (or equivalent). Preferably, the candidate will be able to develop web and/or mobile applications. Apart from knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, having some experience with back-end technologies, particularly with PHP and MySQL, and other languages/technologies such as Jquery and REST API’s, is considered an asset.
