The successful candidate will join the Biotech Process R&D team at Pall’s centre of excellence at Harbourgate, Portsmouth UK. The group’s focus is on collaborative research with universities, NGO’s and industrial partners to further our understanding of bioprocessing. The successful candidate will join a project partially funded by innovate UK investigating new methods for the production of the viruses used in gene therapy. The internship will allow the candidate develop a broad range of laboratory skills involving both the production of the virus in flasks and using Pall’s iCELLis ® technology and the purification of the virus using Pall’s Cadence® continuous processing technologies. There will also be opportunities to interact with the external collaborators.

Your Main Duties:

  • Maintenance of cell stocks and providing seed cultures for test work
  • Calibration and quality checks for critical laboratory equipment
  • Performing routine analytics on cell cultures
  • Preparation of test reagents and growth medium
  • Supporting DSP of viral vectors
  • Generation of written reports and presentations
  • Ordering laboratory consumables and monitoring inventory
  • Cleaning of laboratory and turnaround of re-usable equipment
  • Preparation and sterilisation of fluid transfer manifolds and other single use systems
  • Completion and filing of laboratory documentation 
  • Writing standard operating procedures for new equipment and updating existing versions
  • Creation and maintenance of laboratory equipment file
