The Computing Department at Saint Martin’s Institute (SMI) aims to establish itself at the forefront of research related to Virtual Reality in various contexts, particularly in Cultural Heritage. A number of projects are currently underway in this respect, some of which involve multiple disciplines including electronics, engineering (both electrical and mechanical) and software. This post is for an individual to develop serious games and applications using a virtual reality platform.
Duties and responsibilities
- Understand the requirements for the applications and systems, to be able to contribute to their development aspects;
- Analyse current VR applications developed by the Institute and be able to critically evaluate and report on any improvements that may be carried out;
- Be part of a team and work directly with graphics and development members of the team as required;
- Carry out the development tasks needed using the Unity engine onto the Oculus Rift platform, keeping in mind principles for good design and user experience;
- Be a creative problem solver, a collaborator, team player and an individual that is passionate about cutting edge technologies and content.
- Document application and development carried out for future reference and to promote reusable code;
- Provide the team with regular updates about the works being carried out;
Qualifications
To qualify for this post, the candidate should be in possession of a Degree in Computing. Preferably, the candidate would have worked on, or developed applications in Unity and/or C#. Having some experience with Oculus Rift and microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, is considered an asset. Experience in using Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator and 3D modelling software (Maya & 3DS Max) is also advantageous.
