Description:

Celignis is an analytical lab that characterises a wide variety of biomass samples in order to determine their suitability for the production of chemicals,. biobased products and biofuels.

For this position, the Intern will be the responsible of the ICP-OES equipment, determining the concentration of remarkable elements (K, P, CA, Zn...)

With the proper training, the intern will be performing the following activities:

  • Turning operative the device, checking maintenance and evaluate the status of the device
  • Preparation of the solutions and the standards
  • Calibration of the Standards
  • Running samples
  • Data processing and report
  • Troubleshooting

If the intern stays for a long period of time, they could be enroled aswell in the sample preparation and other activities of the company.

Aditionally with this position, when the ICP-OES analysis doesnt have to be done, the intern will be an associate in the Chromatography department, helping in the activities of this department.

We have a wide array of analytical equipment in our laboratories. In particular we do a lot of work with the following chromatography equipment:

  • Ion chromatography equipment (3 systems for sugars/amino-acids and 2 for anions).
  • HPLC-UV (3 systems).
  • Gas chromatography (2 systems).
  • GC-MS.

An example of the activities the intern can be trained and involved with, include:

  • Running samples on the system.
  • Processing the data obtained in analysis.
  • Understanding and effectively-using the various software programs used to control chromatography equipment and provide data.
  • Developing new analysis methods for new analytes (e.g. using new columns, new eluents, and new chromatography conditions).
  • Repairing and modifying chromatography equipment (e.g. pumps, autosamplers etc.).
  • Interacting with others in the Celignis lab, in handling the samples they produce and letting them know when the data will be provided.

There is a digital skills element as we are looking to transfer much of the chromatography data to our own database, under construction.

Please note that we are not able to provide any financial support for this internship.

Duration of the Internship can vary, a minimun of 3 months up to 8 months. Preferably 4 months or more. Starting date is flexible, preferably beginning of September.
