Company Summary

Urban Food Box (UFB) provides an energy recovery solution for buildings to transforms wasted energy into food. Our technology uses Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) integrated inside commercial and service buildings to repurpose exhaust airflow of climate control systems. UFB software monitors CO2 production, thermal and electrical energy consumption of the location to match the demand of the CEA chamber.

The installation of an UFB unit will contribute to increase the energy efficiency of the location and generate economic savings on electricity bills, while taking advantage of the otherwise wasted energy to decrease its own net energy consumption to grow clean, fresh and high-quality food. UFB is a real bio-circular economy concept within urban areas with a natural carbon emissions capturing and accounting system used to monitor and reduce the environmental impacts. Let’s make circular food production from recovered energy real!!

Role of UFB Intern

We are looking for up to 2 engineering students between September and December 2019 to participate, learn and develop skills with the UFB team at Casa do Impacto in Convento de São Pedro de Alcântara. The intern will be required to commit for up to 20 days work each month working 8 hours.. This opportunity comes with a stipend for expenses (travel and food) coverage up to €50 per month of the internship period.

This is an opportunity to be involved in an early stage start-up and assist UFB to accelerate our conversation about energy and food waste, communicate our story as we begin the development process and validate our product. Interns will use their technical skills and practice applying them in simulations in a start-up environment.
