General information

Duration:
6 months
Commitment:
Full-time
Description:

The production of phages involves two stages: Upstream (USP) and Downstream processing (DSP).
The USP is a fermentation process that includes two stages – bacterial cultivation and phage
production. Many different strategies can be applied in order to optimize the fermentation process
and maximise the process yield. The goal of this traineeship is to support the process optimization
and development of phage production processes within Micreos Food Safety.

The main activities of the traineeship are:
- Literature research of the bacteria and the phages
- Study the current production processes
- Develop methods for screening and scale-down of bacteriophage production
- Screen parameters on microtiter plates and efficiently analyse data
- Scale up promising results on 2L benchtop bioreactor

As an trainee at Micreos, you will work mostly in ML2 labs. You will be trained and supervised to
excel your skills in general lab activities, measurement of the key parameters in fermentation
processes and analysing data. Basic academic background in biotechnology, biochemical
engineering, microbiology, food or related disciplines is required.

The duration of the internship is minimum 6 months.

Candidates should be able to work in Europe.
