General information
The student will carry out a project in asymmetric organic synthesis in a dynamic laboratory at the Instituto de Química Orgánica General at the CSIC in Madrid (http://www.iqog.csic.es/).
The goal of our research is to develop asymmetric organic procedures with boronates and enantiopure organosulfur compounds for the preparation of bioactive molecules and chiral ligands.
Research in our group is focused on linking the development of synthetic methodology (new reactions, new elements of stereocontrol, etc.) with the synthesis of complex bioactive products.
Our contributions in Organic Synthesis have been aimed to fundamental points such as:
• The search of reactions with high regio-, stereo- and enantiocontrol
• The asymmetric synthesis of enantiopure compounds using boronates and sulfur-based chiral auxilliaries
• The functionalization of nitrogen and oxygen heterocycles and acyclic molecules

The student will be trained in modern techniques in organic synthesis such as the search of new synthetic procedures and purifications, characterization of organic compounds by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, particularly of stereochemical features, Mass spectrometry and the study of the reaction mechanisms.
Besides the intern will elaborate reports on his/her developments and participate in group meetings.
